legislative
The purpose of the Legislative Committee is to keep members informed of recent and/or proposed changes in federal, state, and local legislation that affect the legitimate, responsible ownership and use of firearms. The Legislative Committee stays in contact with our fellow sportsmen to make sure they know where we stand on the current sports issues. As part of the process, there are a few basic ideas that we stand behind. They are issues that are at the heart of the sport and lifestyles we support. Using the following guidelines, the Legislative Committee serves as the political eyes and ears of the Sportsmen’s Club of Clifton Park.
2nd Annual Sportsmen & outdoor recreation legislative awareness day
Tuesday, January 25, 2011, 9AM – 1PM, State Legislative Office Building, South Swan & State Streets, Albany. Nearly 3,000 sportsmen from across the state took part in this event last year. Wayne La Pierre from the NRA will be speaking again this year. This is an important opportunity for New York Sportsmen to speak out on issues that are important to them. The event is sponsored by the Assembly Minority Leader, Brian Kolb, as part of the Assembly Minority Conference. Assemblyman Kolb is asking attendees to email him if they plan to attend @ kolbb@assembly.state.ny.us.
The Sportsmen’s Club of Clifton Park Supports:
- A 2nd Amendment interpretation that it applies to all citizens at the state level and ensures our right to “keep and bear arms” as outlined in the Constitution of the United States of America
- Making New York the 41st state with right to carry concealed firearms for personal protection
- Expanded civil immunity when someone uses a firearm in lawful self-defense
- Uniform laws statewide with no exceptions for New York City.
- Repealing the 2000 ban on self-loading firearms used for self-defense, hunting and sport shooting.
- Eliminating the ballistic database COBIS - No criminals have ever been prosecuted by the government using the database that we have evidence of.
- Allowing unlicensed possession of a pistol at a range with the permission of the owner.
- Expanded protection for shooting ranges from noise complaints
The Sportsmen’s Club of Clifton Park Opposes:
- Renewable pistol licenses
- Prohibiting private firearms sales between non-gun dealers
- Making handguns harder to operate and use safely under the guise of “childproofing”
- Redefining and prohibiting common self-defense and hunting ammunition
- Establishing state standards for guns sold in New York by the State Police
- Ammunition coding schemes
- Prohibiting firearms based upon bore diameter
- Personalized “smart guns” which only exist in science fiction
- Prohibiting virtually all self-loading rifles and pistols which use detachable magazines
- Microstamping
- Prohibiting carrying firearms for self-defense on public land
